Tanzim bowled magnificently in the Tigers’ final group-stage clash against Nepal but got involved in a heated exchange with Nepalese skipper Rohit Paudel. During his clinical spell, Tanzim lost his cool and inappropriately pushed Paudel in the third over of Nepal’s innings.

The ICC found Tanzim guilty of breaching article 2.12 of the ICC code of conduct for players and player support personnel, which pertains to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match.” Match referee Richie Richardson fined Tanzim 15 per cent of his fees. However, the ICC did not conduct a formal hearing because Tanzim admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction.

In the absence of Shoriful Islam, Tanzim has emerged as Bangladesh’s go-to bowler alongside Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman. In four T20 World Cup 2024 appearances, the right-arm pacer has taken nine wickets at an impressive economy of 4.80.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh secured their Super Eights qualification with an emphatic win over Nepal. Led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Tigers will face the mighty Aussies in their first Super Eight fixture in Antigua on June 21.
