India defeated England by 142 runs in the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium, sealing a 3-0 series sweep. Shubman Gill starred with a brilliant 112 in his 50th ODI appearance, while Virat Kohli (52) and Shreyas Iyer (78) provided strong support. India posted 356, with Adil Rashid taking 4 for 64, his best figures in India.

England’s chase started steadily, reaching 126 for 2, but their batting collapsed to 175 for 8 by the 31st over. Gus Atkinson’s quickfire 38 was a rare highlight as England were bowled out for 214 with 94 balls remaining. Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh shared the spoils in India’s clinical bowling effort.
Gill’s century came off 95 balls, breaking a run of 14 innings without a hundred. He built crucial partnerships with Kohli and Iyer before falling to Rashid, who also dismissed Hardik Pandya with a sharp leg-break. KL Rahul’s brisk 40 helped India reach their highest ODI total at this venue.
England’s top order showed early promise, but Arshdeep’s knuckle ball removed Ben Duckett after a brisk 34. Tom Banton and Joe Root steadied the innings briefly, but Kuldeep’s wrong ‘un triggered a middle-order collapse. Hardik, Rana, and Washington cleaned up the tail with ease.
This result adds to England’s struggles, as they have now lost 16 of their last 23 ODIs. They will hope for a turnaround in the upcoming Champions Trophy, while India, in strong form, face Bangladesh in their opener on February 20.
