After Gujarat Titans’ triumphant 35-run victory against Chennai Super Kings, skipper Shubman Gill couldn’t help but feel a tinge of regret over their missed opportunities, particularly falling short on net run-rate despite their impressive win in the IPL match in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Gill, who showcased his batting prowess with a remarkable 104 off 55 balls, alongside fellow-centurion B Sai Sudharsan (103 off 51 balls), emphasized that their total of 231 for 3 could have surpassed the 260-run mark, potentially making a significant impact on their net run-rate.
“In hindsight, we could have aimed for 250; unfortunately, we fell short. The last few overs were well-bowled by CSK. We felt we were slightly below par, not just in terms of match outcome but also concerning net run rate.” Gill remarked during the post-match presentation ceremony.
Despite leaving the field early during CSK’s chase due to cramps. Gill reassured everyone that it was nothing serious, merely a temporary setback.
Regarding his exceptional 210-run opening partnership with Sudharsan, Gill expressed his satisfaction with their free-flowing batting display, highlighting their understanding and synergy on the field.
“We enjoyed the freedom during our partnership; there were no specific targets in mind. We made the most of every opportunity and maximized every over. Our rapport and understanding on the field are excellent. Statistically, it was one of our best opening partnerships,” Gill explained.
Acknowledging Mohit Sharma’s stellar performance with figures of 3 for 31 on a flat pitch, Gill commended the veteran’s consistent contributions to the team.
“Mohitbhai has been a key player for us over the years, and today was no exception. Despite the occasional off-day, he has been a revelation for our team,” Gill praised.
Meanwhile, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad admitted that their path to the playoffs is becoming increasingly challenging, emphasizing the need for improved fielding and execution in the upcoming matches.
“Though our execution was decent, we let ourselves down in the field, conceding 10-15 extra runs. Credit to Gujarat for their exceptional batting performance. With the playoffs in sight, every game becomes crucial, especially against tough opponents like Rajasthan Royals,” Gaikwad concluded.
