Australia’s Green and Hazlewood Forge Historic 10th Wicket Partnership Against New Zealand in Test Cricket

In the opening Test of the series against New Zealand in Wellington, Cameron Green showcased his prowess with a career-best innings of 174 for Australia. His aggressive century, packed with boundaries, came as a crucial response to the early setbacks Australia faced, especially after losing Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne early on.

Green’s innings not only rescued Australia from a precarious position but also saw him surpassing former Australian greats Jason Gillespie and Glenn McGrath in a significant milestone. Batting at number four, he formed a resilient partnership with Mitchell Marsh before the lower-order collapse brought Australia to 267-9 at the end of Day 1.

However, Green’s heroics didn’t end there. Teaming up with Josh Hazlewood for the final wicket, Green reached his second Test century in style, scoring three boundaries off the last over of the day. The partnership between Green and Hazlewood extended to 116 runs unbeaten the following day, breaking the previous record for Australia’s highest tenth-wicket stand against New Zealand set by Gillespie and McGrath in 2004.

Green’s aggressive batting set the stage for Australia’s commanding first-innings lead, complemented by a superb bowling display led by Nathan Lyon, which restricted New Zealand to a mere 179 runs. Despite losing a couple of early wickets in their second innings, Australia ended the day with a significant advantage, firmly in control of the match.
