London Spirit will be without Zak Crawley in The Hundred 2024 after the England opener fractured his finger while fielding in the third Test against the West Indies last week in Birmingham. Crawley, injured while fielding at slips during the West Indies’ second innings, was taken to the hospital where an X-ray confirmed the fracture. The full extent of the injury is still unknown, but according to The Telegraph, the medical team will decide this week if surgery is necessary.
In Crawley’s absence, Ben Stokes opened the innings with Ben Duckett, leading England to chase down an 87-run target in just 7.2 overs, securing a 3-0 series whitewash against the Caribbean side.
London Spirit, who have begun The Hundred 2024 with two consecutive losses, will miss Crawley for the entire tournament. They have signed Keaton Jennings as his replacement, who may also replace Crawley at the top of the order for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.
England is also considering Dan Lawrence as a potential partner for Duckett at the top of the order. Lawrence, who has been part of the England squad in several recent series, has not added to his 11 Test appearances since March 2022. He was on standby for the second Test at Trent Bridge when Duckett was expecting the birth of his second child.
Crawley had a challenging series against the West Indies, scoring just 97 runs from four innings. He started the series strong with a 76 off 89 balls in the first Test at Lord’s but struggled in subsequent matches.
