In the first T20I against South Africa, India displayed their aggressive approach, and Sanju Samson led the charge with a stunning 47-ball century. Samson, who had previously scored his maiden T20I century against Bangladesh last month, continued his brilliant form, guiding India to a total of 202/8. Alongside him, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played vital cameos, adding to the total.

Although India posted a formidable target, the Proteas struggled to chase it down, losing wickets at regular intervals. India won by 61 runs, but a batting collapse in the last five overs raised concerns. After Samson’s departure, India lost six wickets quickly, which prevented them from posting an even bigger total.
Despite the collapse, captain Suryakumar Yadav remained positive and stressed the importance of playing a selfless, fearless brand of cricket. “Even if we lose a few wickets, we want to play without fear. It’s a T20 game, and if we can score 200 in 17 overs, why not?” said Suryakumar after the match.
Suryakumar also praised Samson for his remarkable knock, noting the hard work he has put in over the years. “Even when he was in the 90s, he kept looking to hit big shots. It’s great to have him in the team,” he added. Samson’s century was a crucial contribution as he became the seventh-fastest Indian to reach 7,000 T20 runs.
With India securing the first T20I win, they now look to clinch the series in the second match on Sunday.
