The inaugural Delhi Premier League T20 has been a spectacle of thrilling cricket, highlighted by a record-breaking match between the South Delhi Superstarz and North Delhi Strikers. Ayush Badoni and Priyansh Arya stole the show with their explosive partnership of 286 runs, setting a new record for the highest partnership in T20 history. They shattered the record for the most sixes in a single T20 innings by hitting 31 sixes, with 29 of those coming from their bats.
Badoni Breaks Record for Most Sixes
Badoni, in particular, made headlines by hitting 19 sixes, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous record of 18 sixes set in the 2017 Bangladesh Premier League. Arya matched Yuvraj Singh’s record by hitting 6 sixes in a single over, joining a select group of players including Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran.
New Records Set in T20 Cricket
The South Delhi Superstarz’s total of 31 sixes also set a new record for the most sixes in a T20 match, exceeding the previous record of 26 held by Nepal. Their final score of 308/5 was just shy of the highest team total in T20 cricket, falling behind Nepal’s 314/3 against Mongolia in the Asian Games 2023. This record-breaking performance not only highlights their dominance in this match but also sets new benchmarks in T20 cricket.
