West Indies will be without veteran all-rounder Stafanie Taylor for their upcoming white-ball tour of India due to injury. The 33-year-old is currently recovering from an injury and will miss the three T20Is and three ODIs against India. Her absence creates a significant gap in the squad, but Deandra Dottin is set to make her ODI comeback, providing a silver lining.
Dottin, who had announced her retirement from international cricket two years ago, made a return to the West Indies squad during the 2024 T20 World Cup. She last played an ODI in March 2022 but has shown strong form recently. In the 2024 T20 World Cup and the WBBL, she impressed with her power-hitting, notably smashing an unbeaten 46 off 18 balls for Melbourne Renegades in a crucial match against Adelaide Strikers.
Also returning to the squad are seamer Shabika Gajnabi and wicketkeeper-batter Rashada Williams, both of whom were unavailable for the T20 World Cup. This tour will offer a chance for these players, along with others, to showcase their skills in front of Women’s Premier League scouts.
West Indies coach Shane Deitz is optimistic about the team’s prospects, particularly after their strong semi-final finish in the T20 World Cup. He hopes the team can carry that momentum into the India tour. Mumbai will host the three T20Is, followed by three ODIs in Vadodara. The ODI series will be crucial for ICC Women’s Championship points.
The squad will undergo a 10-day acclimatization camp ahead of the tour. West Indies last toured India in 2016, winning the T20I series 3-0 but losing the ODIs 0-3.
