Scotland’s Charlie Cassell made a sensational one-day international debut, taking a record-breaking 7-21 against Oman. This remarkable performance set a new record for the best figures by a player in their first ODI, surpassing Kagiso Rabada’s record of 6-16 against Bangladesh in July 2015. Charlie Cassell’s record-breaking debut figures now rank as the seventh best in all men’s ODI cricket, with only Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vaas taking more wickets in a single match (8-19 against Zimbabwe in 2001).

The 25-year-old pacer made an immediate impact, taking wickets with his first two balls and three in total during his opening over. He trapped Zeshan Masqood lbw, bowled Ayaan Khan with the next delivery, and although he missed a hat-trick, he had Khalid Kail caught off his fourth ball. Charlie Cassell continued to dismantle Oman’s cricket team, bowling them out for just 91 runs in 21.4 overs. He sealed the innings by dismissing Bilal Khan.

Scotland’s cricket team chased down their target comfortably in 17.2 overs to win by eight wickets. Brandon McMullen led the way with an unbeaten 37 off 43 balls, supported by skipper Richie Berrington’s 24 not out off 28 balls and George Munsey’s 23 off 26. Charlie Tear contributed four runs before being dismissed.

Charlie Cassell’s ODI debut not only secured a dominant victory for Scotland but also etched his name into the record books, highlighting a bright future for the young bowler in international cricket.
