Uma Chetry, hailing from Assam, marked her debut for the India Women’s cricket team in the second T20I against South Africa Women. Despite rain interrupting the match after just half its duration, Chetry’s performance drew glowing praise from India Women’s fielding coach, Munish Bali.

During her debut, Chetry showcased her skills with a crucial stumping that dismissed Tazmin Brits, the Player of the Match from the previous T20I, albeit under challenging circumstances. Bali expressed his joy at seeing Chetry receive her debut cap, making her the 83rd player for India Women in T20Is. He commended her courage, remembering her resilient fielding at short-leg during a previous Test match. Despite being hit by the ball, she continued without complaint, showing determination and grit.
Bali highlighted Chetry’s exceptional attitude and strong work ethic, emphasizing how she overcame obstacles to excel in cricket. He praised her determination and perseverance, particularly noting her background of facing hardships from a young age, including a daily 16-kilometer trek to her cricket training center.
Chetry’s journey shows her toughness and dedication, qualities that have made her well-liked in the cricket world. Her first game and Bali’s praise highlight her ability and commitment to playing for India Women at the top level.
