Pant and Gill Expected to Be Fit for Pune Test

Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill are expected to be fit for the second Test against New Zealand. India’s assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, provided this update. With only two days left until the match, India remains optimistic. They hope Pant will return as wicketkeeper to help them bounce back from their Bengaluru loss.

Pant and Gill Expected to Be Fit for Pune Test

Pant suffered a knee injury on the second day of the first Test while attempting to stump Devon Conway in the 37th over. After failing to collect the ball, he was struck and immediately left the field. Dhruv Jurel stepped in as wicketkeeper for the remainder of the first innings and 27.4 overs of New Zealand’s second innings.

Gill, on the other hand, missed the first Test due to neck stiffness. Ten Doeschate provided an update on both players, stating, “Rishabh’s pretty good.” He noted that Rohit Sharma mentioned Pant was experiencing some discomfort at the end range of his knee movement but expressed hope that Pant would be fit to keep wickets in the upcoming Test.

Regarding Gill, ten Doeschate added, “He’s batted last week in Bangalore and had a few nets. He’s got a little bit of discomfort, but I think he will be good to go for the Test.” With both players likely returning to the lineup, India aims to level the series against New Zealand.
