In a key development for IPL 2025, West Indies’ power-hitter Nicholas Pooran has signed a retention deal with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), securing a significant pay increase. Pooran recently met with LSG owner Mr. Sanjeev Goenka at the RPSG group’s office in Kolkata ahead of the IPL retention deadline, set for October 31. According to Cricbuzz, Pooran signed his retention contract during this meeting, committing himself to the Lucknow franchise for the upcoming season.

Nicholas Pooran’s Increased Salary
The report highlights that Pooran will be LSG’s first official retention ahead of the much-anticipated mega auction. Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allows franchises flexibility in player payments outside prescribed slabs, LSG confirmed that Pooran will receive INR 18 Crores—an increase of two crores over his current IPL salary. An LSG official praised Pooran, stating, “Pooran is committed to LSG, possesses a winning mindset, thinks deeply, and adapts to any batting order or match scenario.”
Pooran’s Impressive Performance
Nicholas Pooran has certainly earned his pay raise, proving to be a game-changer for the SuperGiants. Since joining LSG, he has accumulated 857 runs in 29 innings, averaging 42.85 with a strike rate of 175.98, positioning him as an invaluable middle-order asset.
LSG’s Retention Strategy
Meanwhile, LSG has finalized their retention list, with Indian batsman KL Rahul reportedly not among the retained players. Instead, LSG will retain spinner Ravi Bishnoi and pacer Mayank Yadav as capped players, while promising talents Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni will continue in the uncapped players’ category, each receiving INR 4 Crores. This retention strategy will see LSG committing INR 51 Crores, leaving a strong 69 Crore balance to fill a minimum of 15 roster spots during the upcoming mega auction.
