Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s white-ball captain, is reportedly upset with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and has threatened to step down from ODI captaincy. According to a report from IANS, Rizwan is unhappy with the lack of authority he holds and plans to meet PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi soon to discuss the matter.
Tensions began to rise after Rizwan was excluded from Pakistan’s T20I squad for the recently concluded series against New Zealand. The wicketkeeper-batter is seeking greater control over team selection, especially when it comes to deciding the playing XI. A source revealed that if Rizwan’s demands are not met, he may resign from his role as ODI captain.
A source revealed that Rizwan plans to meet PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi at the earliest to seek clarity on his exclusion from the T20I squad. During the meeting, he is expected to demand a greater role in team selection. If his request is denied, there’s a strong chance he may step down as Pakistan’s ODI captain.
Reports also indicate that Rizwan had a disagreement with head coach Aaqib Javed over the ODI playing XI. Rizwan preferred a line-up with five specialist bowlers, but Aaqib insisted on going with only four. The move ultimately backfired, adding to Rizwan’s frustration.
This ongoing disagreement reflects broader issues within the Pakistan camp, where instability and internal conflicts continue to impact decision-making. With several changes already made in the T20I squad, including the exclusion of key players like Rizwan and Babar Azam, more shake-ups could follow.
A final decision is expected soon after Rizwan’s meeting with the PCB chairman. The situation remains tense, and Rizwan’s future as captain hangs in the balance.
