Lauren Filer signs a three-year contract with Durham

Lauren Filer, the England fast bowler, has signed a three-year deal with Durham, ahead of the club’s inaugural season as a Tier 1 women’s county in 2025. Filer, recognized as England’s fastest bowler, joins fellow international teammate Mady Villiers as part of Durham’s significant recruitment strategy, replacing the Northern Diamonds as the northern-most representative in the new women’s domestic setup.

At just 23 years old, Filer made a notable impression during last summer’s Ashes, highlighted by a memorable debut in the one-off Test at Trent Bridge. She has played 17 matches across all formats for England but was not selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Before joining Durham, Filer progressed through Somerset’s development pathway, making 41 appearances for Western Storm since signing her first professional contract in 2020. Her best figures of 3 for 8 came during this season’s Charlotte Edwards Cup. Additionally, she has participated in the Women’s Hundred with Welsh Fire, London Spirit, and Manchester Originals, achieving her best ODI figures of 3 for 10 against Ireland in Belfast.

“I’m super excited to make the move up north,” Filer expressed. “The values of the club are crucial for a successful environment.” Marcus North, Durham’s Director of Cricket, praised Filer’s signing, noting her speed and talent will significantly enhance the squad as they aim to establish a successful women’s team.
