Jasprit Bumrah proved his superstar status once again in the Perth Test against Australia, leading India with a brilliant 5-wicket haul. Not only did Bumrah showcase his skills with the ball, but he also stepped up as captain, leading from the front on both Day 1 and Day 2 to leave Australia struggling.

This fifer marked Bumrah’s 11th in Tests and his second in Australia. The last time he took five wickets on Australian soil was during the 2018 MCG Test, where he took 6 wickets to secure India’s victory. In the Perth Test, Bumrah started strong, dismissing openers Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja, followed by a sensational first-ball duck for Steve Smith. He then dismissed Australian captain Pat Cummins before wrapping up his five-wicket haul by getting Alex Carey on Day 2.
With this performance, Bumrah equaled Kapil Dev’s record for the most five-wicket hauls in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia), with both bowlers having taken 7 fifers in these countries. Zaheer Khan and B Chandrasekhar follow with 6 fifers each in SENA.
Bumrah’s journey to this milestone began in 2018 during India’s tour of South Africa, where he took his first fifer in Johannesburg. He followed this with fifers in Nottingham and Melbourne that same year. Over the years, he has continued to dominate in SENA countries, with memorable performances in England (2018 and 2021), Cape Town (2022 and 2024), and now, Perth. Bumrah’s latest achievement highlights his consistency and brilliance on foreign soil.
