Ahead of the start of day 2 in the first Test match between England and West Indies at Lord’s, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) honored skipper Ben Stokes with a special ‘Silver Cap‘ for completing 100 Test matches. Stokes achieved this milestone during the tour against India earlier this year, but the board chose to recognize him at home.

ECB chairperson Richard Thompson presented the silver cap to Stokes on this occasion. The presentation was delayed to day 2 as the opening day of the Lord’s Test was dedicated to James Anderson, who is playing his final game for England.
Ben Stokes, renowned for his all-round prowess, has featured in 102 Test matches, amassing 6136 runs and claiming 198 wickets. Known for his exceptional batting and occasional bowling, Stokes returned to bowling in red-ball cricket in the ongoing match after a period of abstention due to a persistent knee injury. He made an impact with the ball, taking a wicket thanks to a stunning catch from Harry Brooks at slips.
In the match itself, England has taken a commanding position by bowling out West Indies for just 121 runs. By the close of play on day 1, England had reached 189/3 in reply. Furthermore, the match continues to unfold at Lord’s, showcasing Stokes’ pivotal role and England’s strong performance under his leadership.
