Shakib’s apology comes in the wake of demands for him to clarify his position on the political situation. The controversy escalated after Rafiqul Islam, whose son Rubel died during the protests, filed a murder case against him in August. Islam claimed Shakib’s silence suggested indifference to the tragedy.

In his statement, Shakib said, “I respectfully remember all the students who sacrificed their lives or were injured while leading the anti-discrimination student movement. I offer my deepest respect and condolences to them and their families.” He added that he understood the disappointment caused by his silence and sincerely apologized to those who felt hurt.

Looking ahead, Shakib expressed his desire to play his farewell Test match at home in Mirpur during the upcoming series against South Africa. He mentioned the need for security clearance to return to Bangladesh due to heightened safety concerns. Shakib appealed to his fans, stating he wanted them by his side for this significant farewell moment, emphasizing that the true heroes of his journey are the supporters, not himself.

Currently, Shakib is playing for the Los Angeles Waves in the NCL USA T10 League, marking a new chapter amid the challenges he faces.
