Cameron Green Likely to Miss Border-Gavaskar Series Due to Back Injury

Cameron Green is expected to miss the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a serious back injury. The Australian all-rounder will likely undergo surgery in New Zealand, which could sideline him for the entire summer. His absence will be a major loss for Australia, as Green has been an essential figure in the team’s success.

Back Surgery on the Cards

Cameron Green Likely to Miss Border-Gavaskar Series Due to Back Injury

The 25-year-old, who was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease last year, sustained a stress fracture in his back during the recent One-Day International series against England. After experiencing back pain following Australia’s defeat in the third ODI at Riverside Ground, scans revealed the severity of the injury. Green missed the penultimate ODI at Lord’s, and now it appears surgery is necessary to address the issue.

A Key Loss for Australia

Green has been a game-changer for Australia over the past two years, with his unique combination of pace bowling and solid batting. He has accumulated 1,377 runs at an average of 36.23 in just 28 Test matches, including two centuries. On the bowling front, Green has claimed 35 wickets, highlighted by a five-wicket haul.

Stellar Form in 2023

Green’s impressive performances continued in 2023, with 302 runs, including a remarkable unbeaten 174 against New Zealand. However, the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series, starting November 22 in Perth, will proceed without him. Australia’s selectors will now face the challenge of finding a suitable replacement for the five-match series against India.
