Aakash Chopra: Rohit Sharma May Leave MI and Miss IPL 2025 Mega-Auction

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction approaches, speculation about Rohit Sharma’s future with the Mumbai Indians (MI) is intensifying. Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has added fuel to the fire with his prediction that Sharma may leave MI.

The discussion gained momentum after MI reappointed Hardik Pandya as captain for IPL 2024, replacing Sharma. This decision, which saw Pandya return from the Gujarat Titans, marked a significant shift, especially given Sharma’s history of leading MI to multiple titles. The move raised questions, particularly after MI’s poor performance in IPL 2024, where they finished last on the points table.

In a recent YouTube video, Aakash Chopra suggested that Sharma’s tenure with MI might be ending. He stated, “Will he stay or will he go? I personally feel he will not stay. The thinking behind retaining a player is to keep them for three years unless you’re MS Dhoni. Sharma’s situation is different.”

Aakash Chopra admitted he has no insider knowledge but speculated that Sharma might seek opportunities with other franchises during the trade window rather than entering the auction. “I don’t think Rohit will be retained. He might be released or could go to someone via the trade window. If not, he may appear in the auction,” Chopra added.

Despite these uncertainties, Chopra confirmed that Suryakumar Yadav will remain with MI. Yadav, who was named India’s T20I captain following Sharma’s retirement from T20 internationals after the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, is expected to continue his association with the franchise.
