Lara emphasized the need to instill a sense of pride and responsibility in representing the West Indies. Starting from grassroots and school-level cricket.

Recognizing the realities of the competition with lucrative franchise leagues, Lara urged, “We’ve got to go and get that into the schools and into the age group cricket before we bring them out on the international stage.” He highlighted importance of nurturing loyalty among the younger generation and fostering an understanding of what West Indies cricket symbolizes.

In addressing the issue, Lara underscored the need for the cricket board to follow the example set by successful cricketing nations like Australia and England. He emphasized that it’s not merely about financial incentives but developing a deep-rooted loyalty to the sport and the country.

As the West Indies faces challenges in retaining its top talent, Lara’s perspective serves as a call to action for the cricketing authorities to reevaluate their strategies, placing a strong emphasis on grassroots development and instilling a sense of pride and loyalty among the next generation of Caribbean cricketers.
