England’s Test captain Ben Stokes will miss three months of cricket after suffering a hamstring injury. The 33-year-old sustained the injury during the third Test against New Zealand earlier this month, which England won 2-1. Unfortunately, Stokes will be unavailable for England’s upcoming key assignments: the India tour and the 2025 Champions Trophy. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the setback in an official statement, announcing that the all-rounder will undergo surgery in January.
The ECB stated that Ben Stokes will miss at least three months of cricket after tearing his left hamstring. “The injury occurred in Hamilton during England’s recent Test series victory in New Zealand.”
In Stokes’ absence, Jos Buttler has been appointed captain. England has announced unchanged squads for the ODI series in India and the Champions Trophy, with Joe Root making a notable return to the limited-overs side. Root’s inclusion adds depth and experience to England’s lineup, especially during Stokes’ absence.
