In a thrilling ODI encounter, Afghanistan emerged victorious against Ireland, securing their fifth consecutive win over their opponents. Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the charge with a stellar innings, scoring 121 runs off 117 balls, overshadowing Harry Tector’s impressive 138 off 147 balls. This win for Afghanistan came in Sharjah, extending their dominance over Ireland in ODI cricket.

Gurbaz’s excellent innings, his sixth ODI century, set up Afghanistan’s strong total of 310 runs with 5 wickets down. Alongside Ibrahim Zadran, who scored 60 runs, Gurbaz built a vital 150-run opening partnership. Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi’s unbeaten 50 also boosted Afghanistan’s score, ensuring they crossed the 300-run mark for only the ninth time in ODIs.
In response, Ireland displayed resilience, led by Tector and wicketkeeper-batsman Lorcan Tucker, who forged a formidable 173-run partnership. However, Afghanistan’s left-arm quick Fazalhaq Farooqi’s double-strike, dismissing key batsmen Andy Balbirnie and Curtis Campher, halted Ireland’s momentum. Despite Tector’s valiant effort, his dismissal in the final over sealed a 35-run victory for Afghanistan, propelling them to a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
