The FIBA Regional Office in the Americas has unveiled the groups for the highly anticipated second edition of the Women’s Basketball League Americas (WBL Americas), set to take place between September and November 2024. This prestigious tournament showcases the top women’s basketball clubs from across the continent and continues FIBA’s commitment to advancing women’s sports in the region.
Group A (South Zone) features a competitive lineup of teams from Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. Representing Argentina will be Ferro and Unión Florida, champions of the Apertura Tournament and the Argentine League, respectively. They will be joined by Sportiva Italiana, the reigning champions of Chile’s league, and Malvín, top team from Uruguay’s league. From September 13 to 15, the Estadio Héctor Etchart in Buenos Aires, Argentina, will host the matches in Group A.
Group B (North Zone) includes teams from the United States, Colombia, El Salvador, and Mexico. Bay Area Phoenix will represent the United States, while Indeportes Antioquia from Colombia. Salvadoreñas from El Salvador, and Pioneras de Delicias from Mexico complete the group. From September 27 to 29, the Coliseo Iván de Bedout in Medellín, Colombia, will host the games for Group B.
The inaugural season of WBL Americas in 2023 saw Indeportes Antioquia crowned champions, marking a significant milestone in tournament’s history. The 2024 edition promises to build on this success. Offering another exciting opportunity for the top women’s basketball clubs in the Americas to compete on an elevated stage.
As anticipation builds for the tournament, fans can look forward to an action-packed series of games showcasing the best talent in women’s basketball from across the continent.
