Gurukul Global School Clinches Basketball Title, Sacred Heart and Sarkaghat Shine in Other Events

Gurukul Global School emerged victorious in the prestigious Dev Raj Memorial Invitational Basketball Tournament, securing a commanding 72-44 win over New Public School, Sector 18, in the final. Ujjwal led the charge for the winners, contributing a game-high 18 points. New Public’s Mohit scored 16 points in a valiant effort, but it wasn’t enough to challenge Gurukul’s dominance.

In the third-place match, Shamrock School from Kaithal triumphed 52-47 over PML SD School, Sector 32. Naman of Shamrock was the standout player, scoring 19 points, while Sector 32’s Gavi added 15 points in a strong performance.

Sacred Heart School Wins Girls’ Basketball Title

In the girls’ category, Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, claimed the championship with a 54-39 victory over New Public School. Samaya was instrumental in the win, scoring 21 points for Sacred Heart. Despite a solid effort from Tarannum, who scored 13 points, New Public couldn’t overcome the deficit.

In a thrilling third-place contest, Government School, Nandgarh (Haryana) defeated Saupin’s School, Sector 31, 37-30. Vanshika led Nandgarh with 11 points, while Vishakha contributed 12 points for Saupin’s.

Tournament Awards

A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament, and top players were recognized for their performances. The best cagers from both categories were awarded Rs 1,500 and a trophy, while ‘The Upcoming Cagers’ received Rs 1,000 and a trophy.

Sarkaghat Government School Wins Shanta H Singh Memorial Tournament

In the Shanta H Singh Memorial Basketball Tournament, Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS) from Sarkaghat (Mandi) claimed the title with a 62-45 win over the hosts, New Public School, Sector 18. Divya contributed 16 points to lead Sarkaghat to victory, while New Public’s Tarannum scored 19 points in a strong individual effort.

Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, finished third after defeating Police DAV Public School, Amritsar, 56-44. Tanmay was the standout performer for Sacred Heart, scoring 31 points, while Amanat of the Amritsar team added 14 points.

Rao Jai Singh Memorial Basketball Tournament

Gurukul Global School also triumphed in the Rao Jai Singh Memorial Basketball Tournament, defeating Shamrock Senior Secondary School, Kaithal, 72-30. Sachin was the top scorer for Gurukul, contributing 20 points, while Shamrock’s Ruder scored 10 points.

In the semifinals, Shamrock defeated Police School 32-18 with Naman scoring 15 points, while Gurukul Global posted a 69-45 win over the hosts with Ajju scoring 35 points.

Player and Emerging Player Awards

Shanvi from GMSSS Sarkaghat was named the Player of the Tournament in the boys’ event, while Sachin of Gurukul Global School received the same honor in the girls’ event. Tarannum Begum and Manan, both from New Public School, were awarded as the most promising upcoming players of the tournament.

These victories and accolades underline the exceptional talent on display at these tournaments, which continue to foster young basketball talent across the region.
