Dubai Basketball is set to host Serbia’s Mega MIS in a highly anticipated ABA League clash at the Coca-Cola Arena on Saturday night, marking a pivotal moment in the season where one team will see their unbeaten record come to an end.
In their inaugural ABA League season, Dubai Basketball has made an impressive start, remaining undefeated after two thrilling victories. They kicked off the season with a narrow 86-84 win against defending champions Crvena Zvezda. Followed by a 92-84 road triumph over Slovenia’s Cedevita Olimpija.
However, Saturday’s matchup promises to be their toughest challenge yet. Mega MIS, last year’s semi-finalists, also enter game unbeaten and are eager to claim the top spot in league standings.
Dubai’s captain, Klemen Prepelic, who earned the ABA League’s Fantasy Player of Week honor for his outstanding performance in Round-2. Emphasized the importance of fan support in creating a vibrant atmosphere at the arena. He urged the fans to rally behind the team, reminiscent of the electrifying energy that filled the Coca-Cola Arena during their opener against Crvena Zvezda.
“Our fans here in Dubai are as much a part of the team as anyone on the roster,” Prepelic stated. “When they show up in force, they become the ‘sixth man.’ The atmosphere they create can turn Coca-Cola Arena into the toughest venue for opponents. We want to experience that again throughout the season.”
Both teams have showcased their prowess, setting the stage for a thrilling contest. Prepelic leads Dubai with 39 points, 14 assists, and 8 rebounds, while American Nate Mason poses a significant threat. Boasting a perfect record from the free-throw line with 38 points.
Mega MIS, known for its track record of producing NBA talent, including three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, will arrive with confidence. Key players Filip Jovic (33 points), Kosta Kondic (32 points), and Mihailo Petrovic (30 points) have all surpassed the 30-point mark in their opening two games.
