Dallas Mavericks fans reeling from the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers may have an option to cancel their season tickets.
In response to reports about refunds, the Mavericks issued a statement emphasizing that they remain committed to season ticket holders.
“We value every season ticket member relationship, and reps are available to take calls from members with any concerns or questions,“ the team told Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News when asked about the situation.
According to Paul Livengood of WFAA Dallas, at least one season ticket holder requested a cancellation and was granted a refund, as revealed through an email exchange with a team representative.
Backlash Over Dončić Trade
The decision to trade Dončić, a franchise icon at just 25 years old, sparked outrage among Mavericks fans. While the team acquired Anthony Davis in return—keeping them competitive in the Western Conference—many remain unconvinced. Davis, at 31 years old, has battled durability concerns throughout his career, making the trade a tough pill to swallow.
Angry fans protested outside American Airlines Center, chanting “sell the team.” Some even launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund billboards expressing their frustration. Meanwhile, a local brewery capitalized on the discontent by releasing a “sell the team” beer.
Future of Season Ticket Pricing Uncertain
The Mavericks also addressed concerns regarding ticket pricing for next season, stating:
“Regarding tickets, no determination has been made about season ticket pricing for the 2025-26 season. Season ticket members will hear from their reps over the next few weeks.”
While Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson could form a formidable trio, it remains to be seen whether their success can ease fan resentment. Regardless of future playoff runs, Dončić’s departure has left a lasting impact on the Mavericks faithful.
