Afghanistan secured victories over Uganda, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea in the initial phase of T20 World Cup 2024 but faced a defeat against the West Indies. Meanwhile, India triumphed over Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA, with their match against Canada being abandoned due to a wet outfield.

Both teams are in Group 1 of the Super Eight stage alongside Australia and Bangladesh, where only two teams will advance to the semifinals. Srikkanth emphasized the importance for India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, to opt for batting first and not allow Afghanistan to set a target. He highlighted Afghanistan’s strong bowling lineup, capable of defending scores around 160-170 due to their batting weaknesses.

Srikkanth warned against underestimating Afghanistan, noting their prowess with left-arm speedster Fazalhaq Farooqi taking 12 wickets in four matches with an impressive economy rate. Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq have also been impactful with six and five wickets respectively. Mohammad Nabi’s experience and Noor Ahmad’s economical bowling add depth to Afghanistan’s formidable attack.
