KKR Signs Dushmantha Chameera as Replacement for England’s Gus Atkinson in IPL 2024 Squad

In a strategic move, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have enlisted Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera, replacing England’s Gus Atkinson for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Despite going unsold in the auction, Chameera joins KKR at his reserve price of 50 Lakh.

KKR Signs Dushmantha Chameera as Replacement for England's Gus Atkinson in IPL 2024 Squad

Chameera, with prior IPL experience playing for Lucknow Super Giants in 2022, brings a wealth of pace to the team. Although injury-prone, the Lankan pacer aims to make a significant impact in the world’s premier T20 league. This signing serves as a like-to-like replacement for Atkinson, known for their raw pace.

As Atkinson’s IPL debut is deferred, the move aligns with England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) strategy to ensure his freshness for the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled immediately after IPL 2024. Managing fast bowlers’ workload remains a key concern.

KKR, under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir and led by Shreyas Iyer, has undergone several changes for the 2024 season. Mitchell Starc’s inclusion adds to the team’s firepower. While Chameera may not start in the XI immediately, his experience and pace make him a valuable asset, potentially leaving a lasting impact in the tournament.
