In the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, Kwena Maphaka’s stellar bowling performance propels South Africa to restrict Zimbabwe to 102. Maphaka’s second five-wicket haul makes him a standout in the match at JB Marks Oval. The left-arm pacer now holds the joint-most five-wicket hauls in Youth ODI history and is the third-highest wicket-taker in South Africa’s Under-19 cricket.
Zimbabwe faced early struggles as Maphaka and Raeeq Daniels applied pressure, resulting in a run-out. Maphaka’s exceptional first over and subsequent three wickets for seven runs disrupted Zimbabwe’s innings. Despite a promising partnership between Ronak Patel and Ryan Kamwemba, South change bowlers, Riley Norton and Tristan Luus, turned the tide, securing three wickets in consecutive overs.
In the end, Zimbabwe reached the 100-run mark but failed to add much more. Apart from Patel and Kamwemba, only Mashford Shungu managed to score over 10 runs. Maphaka’s brilliance was complemented by Luus and Norton, who took three and one wicket(s) respectively. South Africa now needs 103 runs to win in 50 overs.
