Shanghai Masters: Carlos Alcaraz Dominates Shang Juncheng to Reach Third Round

Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning four-time Grand Slam champion, advanced effortlessly to the third round of the Shanghai Masters on Saturday, defeating China’s Shang Juncheng in straight sets. The world number two showcased his dominance with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Alcaraz wasted no time, breaking Shang’s serve in the very first game of the match and maintaining his momentum throughout. Despite Shang’s recent success, including becoming only the second Chinese player to win an ATP Tour singles title at the Chengdu Open last month, he struggled to find his rhythm against the experienced Spaniard.

The enthusiastic crowd, initially rallying behind the local favorite, couldn’t help but be charmed by Alcaraz’s electrifying play. They erupted in cheers when he executed a remarkable backwards shot during an exhilarating rally, demonstrating his flair and skill on the court.

“I’ve been playing really good tennis lately, so I want to just keep going and keep feeling this good,” Alcaraz said after the match. He expressed pride in his performance, noting, “I just had one practice then was straight into this match, so to be able to show this level in the first match, I’m just really proud.”

Entering the tournament on a nine-match winning streak, Alcaraz recently clinched the China Open title in Beijing, where he triumphed over top-ranked Italian Jannik Sinner in the final. Sinner, also competing on Saturday, faced Japan’s Taro Daniel in his opening match.

With this victory, Alcaraz continues to demonstrate why he is a formidable contender in the tournament, setting his sights on further success in Shanghai.
