Katie Boulter and Charles Broom Lead Great Britain to Victory Over Argentina at United Cup

Katie Boulter and Charles Broom helped Great Britain secure a 2-1 victory over Argentina in their Group F opener at the United Cup on Monday.

Boulter gave Great Britain an early advantage with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 victory over Nadia Podoroska in the opening singles match. However, Argentina leveled the score when Tomas Martin Etcheverry defeated GB’s Billy Harris 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second singles clash.

The deciding match came in the mixed doubles, where Boulter, teaming up with Charles Broom for the first time, triumphed alongside her partner in a thrilling encounter. The British duo overcame Argentina’s Maria Lourdes Carle and Etcheverry 7-6 (7), 7-5 to clinch the win for Great Britain.

“So thrilled to get the win,” Boulter said after the match. “I’m very pleased with today. We played so well together, especially considering it was our first time partnering up.”

Great Britain will next face Australia in their second Group F match on January 1.

Boulter, who is engaged to Australian player Alex de Minaur, admitted that the prospect of facing him in a mixed doubles tie-breaker could be awkward. “I don’t know about having a match against him, I think that’s going to be terrible, and a bit of a popcorn match,” Boulter said. “But let’s hope we don’t reach that point and that we win before.”
