Megastar Amitabh Bachchan recently shared a funny and light-hearted anecdote on Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 (KBC) when he was mistaken for legendary tennis player Vijay Amritraj during a visit to New York.
In latest episode, Bachchan engaged in a conversation with contestant Premswaroop Singh Negi, a retired General Officer from the SSB. Negi, a passionate tennis fan, praised Bachchan for his admiration of the sport. This prompted the host to recall a humorous encounter from his own tennis-fan experience.
“I was fortunate enough to attend a Novak Djokovic match in New-York,” Bachchan began, explaining his deep admiration for Serbian-player. “Djokovic is my favorite. He plays so beautifully and even mimics other players.”
The amusing incident occurred when Bachchan sat with a group of fellow Indians, and some fans recognized him and asked for his autograph. However, two American women, seated nearby, looked at Bachchan for a moment before mistakenly addressing him as Vijay Amritraj, the renowned former Indian tennis player.
Bachchan recounted the moment with a smile: “They looked at me a few times and said. ‘It’s a pleasure to meet you, Vijay Amritraj.’ I just smiled and told them, ‘I’m not a tennis player. I’m just here to watch the match.’ I didn’t correct them further or reveal my real identity.”

Bachchan’s humorous tale had the KBC audience in fits of laughter, highlighting the confusion that arose due to the similarities in their appearances and his presence at a high-profile tennis event.
Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 continues to entertain viewers on Sony Entertainment Television, airing weekdays at 9 pm. Bachchan hosts popular quiz show, which first premiered in 2000, except for third-season in 2007 when Shah-Rukh-Khan took the helm.
On the film front, Amitabh Bachchan’s recent projects include his roles in Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth and Kalki 2898 AD. In Vettaiyan, he reunited with Rajinikanth after three decades. Bachchan’s upcoming projects also include Section 84, a courtroom drama directed by Ribhu Dasgupta.
