Hubert Hurkacz Bounces Back at Japan Open 2024 with Victory Over Marcos Giron

Poland’s second seed, Hubert Hurkacz, made a successful return to tennis at the Japan Open 2024, advancing to the second round with a hard-fought victory over American Marcos Giron. Hurkacz secured the win with a final score of 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 on Wednesday.

This match marked Hurkacz’s first competitive appearance since his second-round exit at the US Open last month, where he fell to Australian Jordan Thompson. The Polish player showcased resilience and determination as he battled through three sets against Giron.

In Tokyo, the tournament’s top seed, US Open finalist Taylor Fritz, will face France’s Arthur Fils in his opening match on Thursday. Defending champion Ben Shelton, also from the United States, is looking to retain his title alongside notable competitors, including US Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe, Norway’s Casper Ruud, and Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas.

In an upset, Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands, who famously eliminated Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open, lost in the first round of the Japan Open. He lost to Italy’s Matteo Berrettini with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Hurkacz and his potential to advance further, particularly as he seeks to regain momentum after his recent US Open disappointment.
