Maharashtra Government Offers Rs 11 Crore Reward to Indian Team for Winning T20 World Cup

Team India, having faced criticism in the past, is now basking in praise and collecting accolades following their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory. After defeating South Africa in the final to win their fourth World Cup title and their first in 11 years, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) awarded the team Rs. 125 crore.

A day after the team received the Rs. 125-crore cheque at a ceremony at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the Maharashtra government announced an additional Rs 11 crore prize. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced this on Friday, July 5, in the central hall of Vidhan Bhavan.

Four Mumbai players from the team—captain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shivam Dube—were honored in the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha. CM Shinde especially appreciated the team’s victory over Pakistan and praised Suryakumar Yadav’s catch off David Miller in the final’s last over.

Besides the players, CM Shinde acknowledged the contributions of support staff members Paras Mhambre and Arun Kanade by felicitating them. He also commended the Mumbai police for effectively managing the crowd during Team India’s victory parade at the Wankhede Stadium upon their return from Barbados.
