Australia claimed a 29-run victory over Pakistan in the first T20I of their three-match series at the Gabba in Brisbane on Thursday. The match, reduced to seven overs due to weather conditions, saw Nathan Ellis shine with the ball, taking three wickets to help Australia secure a solid win.
After winning the toss, Pakistan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan chose to bowl first. Australia posted a total of 93/4, with Glenn Maxwell providing a crucial cameo, scoring quick runs to boost the total. Maxwell’s explosive knock was pivotal in giving Australia a competitive total, despite the shortened format.
In response, Pakistan’s chase faltered as they struggled against Ellis’ fine bowling performance. The Pakistani side was unable to build significant partnerships, falling short of the target as they ended up with 64/7 in their allotted seven overs. Ellis was the standout bowler for Australia, taking three wickets and restricting Pakistan’s progress at key moments in the game.
With this victory, Australia took a 1-0 lead in the series. The second T20I will be held on Saturday in Sydney, where Pakistan will be eager to bounce back and level the series.
