The Dutch crew, consisting of Marloes Oldenburg, Hermijntje Drenth, Tinka Offereins, and Benthe Boonstra, completed the race with a time of 6:27.13. Their remarkable performance stunned Great Britain, who had remained unbeaten throughout 2024 and were considered strong contenders.
This defeat denied Helen Glover the chance to win her third Olympic gold medal. Despite the narrow loss, Glover and her British teammates Esme Booth, Sam Redgrave, and Rebecca Shorten achieved a silver medal.
