Denmark’s men’s handball team clinched Olympic gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a commanding 39-26 victory over Spain in the final on Sunday, August 11. This victory marks their second gold in the last three Olympics, adding to their Rio 2016 triumph, and following a silver at Tokyo 2020. Denmark handball Olympic champions 2024 dominated the match, surging to a 21-12 lead in the first half and sealing their place atop the podium with another 18 goals in the second half.

Mathias Gidsel, the standout player, led the Denmark handball victory 2024 with an outstanding performance, scoring 11 goals and missing only two shots. His remarkable display throughout the tournament saw him finish with 62 goals, breaking the previous Olympic record of 61 goals set by his teammate, Mikkel Hansen. Reflecting on the victory, Gidsel said, “It was the perfect day. Not only for me personally, but for the whole team. Playing like this and beating Germany in a final shows how good we are. I’m really proud.”
For Germany handball, the silver medal is their first Olympic handball medal since Rio 2016, where they won bronze, and their first silver since Athens 2004. German goalkeeper Andreas Wolff expressed satisfaction with their achievement, stating, “We came here to win a medal. It is a big success to have won this silver medal. We still have a very young and talented team, and this progress is something we can build on.”
Earlier, Spain handball bronze Paris 2024 was secured with a narrow 23-22 victory over Slovenia in a tightly contested match.
