Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali successfully defended his title with a season-best time of 8:06.05. He was followed by Kenneth Rooks from the USA (8:06.41) and Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot (8:06.47). Ethiopian runner Lamecha Girma, the world record holder and Tokyo 2020 silver medallist, did not finish the race after a fall. A total of 16 athletes competed in the final.

Avinash Sable made a strong start, leading the pack early on, but soon fell behind. By the 1000m mark, he was in fourth place and dropped to seventh by the end of the second lap. As the race progressed, he fell further back and finished over four seconds behind his national record. Matching his record would have earned him eighth place.

In the qualifying round, Avinash Sable posted a time of 8:15.43 to finish fifth in his heat and secure his spot in the final. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, he failed to advance past the heats. For Paris 2024, he qualified by meeting the direct entry standard of 8:15.00.

In the men’s triple jump, Indian athletes Pravin Chithravel and Abdulla Aboobacker did not advance to the final. Chithravel’s best was 16.25m, placing him 12th in Group A and 27th overall, while Aboobacker’s 16.49m effort ranked 13th in Group B and 21st overall. The automatic qualification standard was 17.10m.
