Balraj Panwar Eyes Final D at Paris 2024 Olympics After Semi-Final C/D Performance

In rowing at the Paris 2024 Olympics, India’s Balraj Panwar finished sixth in the men’s single sculls semi-final C/D, held at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium on Wednesday. Panwar clocked his best time of the competition so far, crossing the line in 7:04.97.

With this result, Panwar will advance to Final D on Friday, where he will race for placements between 19 and 24. The top three rowers from each of the two semi-finals in the C/D category have progressed to Final C, vying for positions 13 to 18.

The 25-year-old Panwar’s journey to the semi-finals included a fifth-place finish in the quarter-finals with a time of 7:05.10. Earlier in the week, he secured a spot in the quarter-finals after a strong performance in the repechage rounds. He finished fourth in heat 1 with a time of 7:07.11 and then second in repechage 2 with a time of 7:12.41.

Panwar, who is India’s sole rower at the Paris 2024 Games, secured his place by winning a bronze medal at the Asian and Oceanian Rowing Olympic Qualification Regatta in April. He also finished fourth at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year.

At Tokyo 2020, India’s best rowing result came from the men’s lightweight double sculls team of Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh, who placed 11th.

The medal race (Final A) is set for Saturday, as Panwar continues his quest for a notable finish.
