Marit Bouwmeester of the Netherlands has etched her name in history as the most successful female sailor in the Olympics, winning gold in the women’s dinghy event on August 7 at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This victory adds to her impressive medal tally, which now includes two golds, one silver, and one bronze.
Reflecting on her career, Bouwmeester said, “I definitely have the same hunger. With a family at home, it’s sort of important but not the most important, so I feel a bit more comfortable this time.”
The medal race faced delays due to low winds in Marseille, postponing the competition by a day. However, once conditions improved, Bouwmeester clinched her second Olympic gold, finishing with 38 points. Denmark’s Anne-Marie Rindom secured the silver medal with 61 points, while Norway’s Line Flem Hoest took the bronze with 75 points. The three medallists celebrated their achievements by jumping into the waters of Marseille, marking the end of an exhilarating race and the beginning of joyous celebrations.
