Paris 2024: Arshad Nadeem Aims for 95m After Winning Gold and Setting Olympic Record

Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, after clinching the gold medal in the javelin throw at the Paris 2024 Olympics with an Olympic record of 92.97 meters, has set his sights on reaching the 95-meter mark. The 27-year-old Nadeem became Pakistan’s first individual Olympic champion with his remarkable throw at the Stade de France.

Paris 2024: Arshad Nadeem Aims for 95m After Winning Gold and Setting Olympic Record

Arshad Nadeem broke the previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters, set by Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway in Beijing 2008, and also set a new Asian javelin throw record. His final throw of the evening, 91.79 meters, further showcased his dominance in the event.

Despite his impressive performance, Arshad Nadeem expressed his ambition to improve even further. “I am content with 92.97 meters for now, but I will work harder to achieve a throw over 95 meters,” he said. He credited his success to his coach’s support and his rigorous training.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Arshad Nadeem finished fifth with a best throw of 84.62 meters. In contrast, he achieved three throws over 88 meters in Paris, including two over 90 meters. Neeraj Chopra of India, who finished second in Paris, had won gold in Tokyo with an 87.58-meter throw.

The rivalry between Nadeem and Chopra is heating up, with Chopra previously edging Nadeem at the World Championships and Arshad Nadeem winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Neeraj’s absence. Despite Chopra holding a 9-1 head-to-head advantage, Nadeem’s recent performances and personal bests are drawing significant attention in the javelin throw event.
