The Netherlands hockey semi-finals Paris 2024 secured a spot by defeating Australia vs Netherlands hockey 2-0, avenging their loss to the Kookaburras at Tokyo 2020 hockey rematch. The match, held at Yves-du-Manoir Stadium hockey, was fiercely contested with a strong Dutch fan presence fueling their victory.

Duco Telgenkamp goal scored first with a brilliant penalty corner deflection five minutes into the second half. Thijs van Dam solo goal then sealed the win with a stunning solo goal eight minutes from the end, despite Australia’s strong late rally.
Australia’s defeat marks them as the second Tokyo 2020 finalist to be knocked out in the quarter-finals, following gold medallists Belgium’s earlier loss to Spain vs Netherlands semi-final. The Netherlands will now face Spain in the men’s hockey semi-final Paris 2024.
After the match, Telgenkamp expressed his excitement, highlighting the team’s determination and performance. “It was just a fighting game. We fought until the end to get a good result. It was a fantastic performance from the team,” he said.
Telgenkamp also acknowledged the strength of the Australian team and the need for the Netherlands to match their intensity. Looking ahead to the semi-final against Spain, he stated, “We feel confident about every match. We prepare well, it is our dream to win a medal, but it’s a very long way to go.”
