India’s schedule for August 8 at the Paris 2024 Olympics features exciting events, with Neeraj Chopra aiming to defend his javelin throw title and the Indian hockey team competing for bronze.
Neeraj Chopra will be in action in the men’s javelin throw final at 11:55 PM IST at the Stade de France. Chopra, who clinched gold at Tokyo 2020 with an 87.58m throw, has since become a world champion and Diamond League winner. He topped the qualification rounds with a 89.34m throw, the second-best of his career. Chopra is set to face strong competition from Julian Weber of Germany, Anderson Peters of Grenada, Jakub Vadljech of Czechia, and Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan.
In hockey, the Indian team will compete for the bronze medal against Spain at 5:30 PM IST at the Yves du Manoir in Colombes. After a narrow 3-2 loss to Germany in the semi-finals, India is looking to secure their 13th Olympic medal. They previously defeated Spain 3-0 in the group stage at Tokyo 2020.
Wrestling action includes Indian freestyle wrestlers Aman Sehrawat and Anshu Malik starting their campaigns. Sehrawat will compete in the men’s 57kg category, and Malik will be in the women’s 57kg category. Their bouts begin at 2:30 PM IST, with potential quarter-finals and semi-finals later in the day.
In women’s golf, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will tee off for the second round at the Albatros course, Le Golf National, starting at 12:30 PM IST. Ashok, who finished fourth at Tokyo 2020, is currently tied for 13th place, while Dagar is tied for 7th.
Athletics sees Jyothi Yarraji competing in the women’s 100m hurdles repechage heat 1 at 2:05 PM IST. Yarraji, who finished seventh in her Round 1 heat with a time of 13.16s, needs a top-two finish to advance to the semi-finals.
