The Indian men’s hockey team will face Germany in the semi-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium in Colombes on Tuesday. The match will be live-streamed and telecast in India, starting at 10:30 PM IST.
Ranked fifth in the world, India finished second in the group stages with three wins out of five matches and advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Great Britain in a shootout. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh and Lee Morton scored in regular play, and goalkeeper PR Sreejesh made two crucial saves in the shootout to secure India’s spot in the final four for the second consecutive Olympics. Harmanpreet Singh, India’s top scorer from Tokyo 2020, leads the attack with seven goals in six matches. However, India will be missing key defender Amit Rohidas, who is serving a one-match ban.
Germany, ranked second in the world, reached the semi-finals by defeating Argentina 3-2 in the quarter-finals, with goals from Teo Hinrichs, Gonzalo Peillat, and Justus Weigand. As a result, Germany, a three-time Olympic champion, will be a formidable opponent.
In their last meeting, India defeated Germany 5-4 in the bronze medal match at Tokyo 2020. Since then, the teams have met six times in the FIH Pro League, with India winning five of those encounters. India, who won their first Olympic medal in 41 years with a bronze at Tokyo 2020, aims to add to their tally of 12 Olympic medals, which includes eight golds. Germany has three gold medals in Olympic men’s hockey.
