At the Paris 2024 Paralympics on Tuesday, India’s Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar secured silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the men’s javelin throw F46 class. Ajeet Singh, 30, achieved silver with a throw of 65.62 meters on his second-to-last attempt at the Stade de France. Gurjar, who had been in second place with a 64.96-meter throw, was pushed to third by Singh’s late effort.

Ajeet Singh reflected on his achievement, saying, “I didn’t perform well in Tokyo 2020, so I focused on securing any medal this time. I’m really happy with the silver.” He had previously been world champion but only managed bronze at the world championships in Kobe earlier this year due to poor condition. Singh, who lost his left arm in a train accident, expressed satisfaction with his performance.
Sundar Singh Gurjar, from Karauli, Rajasthan, who lost his left hand in an accident, also shared his journey. After contemplating ending his life, he found purpose through para sports. He holds the world record of 68.60 meters and previously won bronze in Tokyo 2020.
Cuba’s Guillermo Varona Gonzalez won gold with a 66.14-meter throw. With these medals and two more in high jump T63, India’s total medal count at the Paralympics reached a record 51, surpassing their previous best of 19 from Tokyo 2020.
