In a delightful display of camaraderie, Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia showcased an unexpected moment of teamwork during Friday practice at the Indonesian MotoGP. As the session came to a close, Bagnaia found himself stranded on the track after running out of fuel. Fortunately, Marquez came to the rescue, giving Bagnaia a ride back to the pits.
The scene brought smiles and chuckles from Ducati’s management, including Gigi Dall’Igna, who witnessed the unusual alliance unfold. With both riders embroiled in a heated championship battle, the moment provided a refreshing break from the intensity of competition.
Next season, Bagnaia and Marquez will be factory Ducati teammates, and their relationship is already under scrutiny due to their rivalry for the MotoGP championship. However, at Mandalika, Marquez put their competitive differences aside to lend a helping hand when Bagnaia needed it most.
“Finally,” Bagnaia quipped, grateful for Marquez’s assistance. “Thanks to him because I was suffering in the hot temperature. If he didn’t help me, I would have been stuck out there! I will give him a taxi patch in return!”
Marquez responded with a grin, explaining, “He was in front of me, and his bike stopped—due to fuel, I imagine. As a rider, I understand the frustration of being stranded. You sweat a lot when your bike stops, so I helped him back to the box, not because he’s my future teammate, but simply because I was there to assist. He is my competition, but once the chequered flag drops, everything is fine.”
This light-hearted moment not only highlighted the spirit of sportsmanship in MotoGP but also set a positive tone as both riders prepare for the challenges ahead as teammates in the upcoming season.
