Aleix Espargaro has announced his new venture into the world of professional cycling, joining the Lidl-Trek team following his retirement from full-time MotoGP racing. The Spaniard, who has enjoyed a successful career in MotoGP, will officially start his ambassadorial role with Lidl-Trek on January 1, 2025.
In his new position, Espargaro will attend some of the most prestigious cycling events on the calendar, representing the team alongside world-class cyclists. His involvement in the team marks a significant shift from his MotoGP career, reflecting his long-standing passion for cycling.
“I’m thrilled to join the Lidl-Trek family, which is home to some of the world’s best cyclists,” said Espargaro. “I’m excited to learn from some of the best cyclists and staff in the sport, push my limits, and share this special journey with fans.”
Espargaro, a dedicated cycling enthusiast for years, explained that he decided to retire from MotoGP to fully commit to cycling. “Cycling has been a passion of mine for years, and I decided to step away from MotoGP earlier than planned to join a program that aligns so well with my passion,” he said.
The 34-year-old officially announced his retirement from full-time MotoGP racing at the Catalunya Grand Prix earlier this year. However, Espargaro will continue to be involved with the motorsport world, taking on a new role with Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) as a test rider for the MotoGP project, a position he began at the Barcelona test following the season-ending Solidarity Grand Prix.
Espargaro’s transition into cycling marks a new chapter in his sporting career, and fans are eager to see how the seasoned MotoGP star will apply his competitive spirit to the cycling world.
