Valentino Rossi’s VR46 team has reportedly turned down Yamaha’s proposal to become its new satellite MotoGP team for the 2025 season, causing surprise and disappointment among Yamaha’s leadership, including Lin Jarvis.
According to a report on Sky Sports. it, VR46 is now considering strengthening its partnership with Ducati, potentially taking over the official satellite status currently held by Pramac.
Both VR46 and Pramac are currently out of contract with Ducati at the end of the season.
Despite Valentino Rossi’s long standing association with Yamaha as a rider and global ambassador. Paddock rumors suggest that Pramac is also being considered by Yamaha for the satellite M1 supply next season.
Sky Sports indicates that Pramac now has two choices:
- Renew with Ducati for another two seasons, possibly retaining factory spec status, but with uncertainty about their future beyond 2027.
- Transition to Yamaha in 2025, offering longer term stability and financial benefits from the Japanese manufacturer, which recently reaffirmed its commitment by retaining Fabio Quartararo.
Pramac reportedly has around a month and a half to decide whether to extend its contract with Ducati.
LCR, historically linked with Honda, is another satellite team that could potentially switch manufacturers at the end of the current season.
