GASGAS Tech3 rider Pedro Acosta faced a setback at the French MotoGP in Le Mans with an early crash while contending for a podium position, concluding what he described as a “somewhat frustrating” weekend. Despite feeling he had the pace to lead the pack, Acosta had to battle from tenth to sixth in the Sprint race before his unfortunate exit on Sunday.
Now, Acosta sets his sights on Catalunya, marking his third consecutive ‘home’ event after races in Jerez and Le Mans. Despite not standing on the podium in Moto3 or Moto2 at the Barcelona circuit, Acosta approaches the upcoming race with renewed enthusiasm and clear strategies.
Reflecting on his Le Mans experience, Acosta expressed determination for the Catalunya round: “Le Mans was somewhat frustrating… I arrive in Montmeló with more enthusiasm and clear ideas, so I will try to have a good Friday, continue on Saturday, and finish it on Sunday.”
Aware of the challenges posed by Catalunya’s low grip and tire degradation, Acosta remains optimistic, drawing on lessons learned in the previous races: “We will see how we manage the tires throughout the weekend on a circuit with little grip… I’m really looking forward to the weekend and seeing how the GASGAS audience fills the stands with red!”
Team manager Nicolas Goyon acknowledged Acosta’s impressive record as a rookie, being the only rider to score points in every sprint and race until his Le Mans crash. Goyon emphasized Acosta’s resilience, anticipating his return to the track with even greater determination.
Acosta’s teammate, Augusto Fernandez, also anticipates the Catalunya round eagerly, aiming for improved results after a challenging start to the season. Fernandez, a podium finisher in the 2022 Moto2 campaign at Barcelona, is eager to capitalize on his familiarity with the track and the support of the GASGAS home crowd.
As both riders prepare to tackle the Catalunya circuit, they remain focused on their goals and determined to deliver strong performances in front of their home fans.
