The 2024 MotoGP Season Kicks Off with Marc Marquez’s Transition to Gresini Ducati
As the 2024 pre-season MotoGP testing approaches, Marc Marquez looks back on his debut with Gresini Ducati at Valencia and shares his anticipation for the upcoming tests in Malaysia and Qatar.
Making a significant move after spending his entire 11-year MotoGP career with Repsol Honda, Marquez, a six-time world champion, rode a Desmosedici for the first time at the Valencia test in November.
With the real challenges awaiting him at Sepang next month, Marquez expresses his eagerness and a sense of calmness as he embarks on a full pre-season, something he hasn’t experienced in years due to injuries.
Marc Marquez comments, “Last year was only half normal because there were also problems with my shoulder, but now I have work to do in Malaysia and Qatar to continue adapting to the bike and the working style of the new technical team.”
Reflecting on his first outing with Gresini Ducati at Valencia, where he briefly led the timesheets. Marquez admits feeling nervous but highlights the calmness behind the widely talked-about smile upon his return. He emphasizes the need to adapt to the bike and make necessary changes to feel completely comfortable.
Joining Gresini Ducati means teaming up with his younger brother. Alex Marquez, for the first time since 2020 at Repsol Honda. The #93 jokes about the teammate being the first rival but underscores the familial bond and mutual support.
As they prepare for the upcoming season, both Marquez brothers will ride year-old GP23 bikes. The official Sepang test is scheduled for February 6-8, followed by a final pre-season test in Qatar on February 19-20. Marc Marquez’s Ducati race debut will take place at the Lusail circuit on the weekend of March 8-10.
